(Sense Got Out) - "It ranks as one of the most emotionally honest songs I've heard all year"
"The past few years have given Wayne Mason something to live up to. In 2001 his song Nature (originally recorded wiht his band The Fourmyula in 1969) was voted the number 1 song by APRA. A year later he was honoured as a Member of the NZ Order of Merit. Mason gets to show off that award winning skill on his latest solo album "Sense Got Out", his first since 2001's "Same Boy". This time around Wayne has assembled a new band, "The Fallen Angels", comprised mostly of familiar faces like former Warratah Clinton Brown (Bass)and guitarist Greg Turner (Desert Road Band).
One can only assume from the subject matter of these songs that Wayne has gone through a heap of heartache in the recent past. Songs like "Side of the House", "Another Day" and "Plates" find Mason sorting through the wreckage of painful breakup, ruminating on lonliness, sadness, resigination and regret.
The best of them is the title track where Wayne looks at the failing relationship straight in the eye and tells the listener:
"If you think this story's got a happy ending, I got news for you my friend".
It ranks as one of the most emotionally honest songs I've heard all year."
